Mathematical Communication Based on Kolb Learning Style Assimilator and Accommodator Types a) Postgraduate Program of Mathematics Education, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Jalan Ir. Sutami No. 36A, Surakarta 57126, Indonesia Abstract Mathematical communication is very needed in the learning process, through communication students can filter ideas and clarify understanding. Learning style can lead students to an optimal condition in processing information and assist students in learning. The purpose of this study is to describe about mathematical communication based on Kolb learning style assimilator and accomodator types. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The subject of the study consisted 2 students of Junior High School in Sleman which selected using purposive sampling. The research instruments were questionnaire and essay test. Data validity used method triangulation. Data analyses were done through data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. The results show that subject of the accomodator type can explain ideas and situations in writing, can express mathematical ideas in the form of images and can arrange arguments and generalizations. While the assimilator type subject can express mathematical ideas in the form of image only if there are commands in the problem and can construct arguments but cannot make generalizations. Theoretically, this research shows that there is a match between learning style and students mathematical communication. Keywords: Mathematical Communication; Learning Style Topic: Mathematics |
