Abstract

Abstract. Students find it difficult to understand the sequence of process steps that occur in the carbon cycle. This can load students cognitive systems which can cause cognitive load, one of which is intrinsic cognitive load. Intrinsic cognitive load is related to the load of processing information received. One way to overcome the cognitive load on students can use worked example. The purpose of this study is to obtain information about the effect of working example on learning the carbon cycle using S-Note application to the intrinsic cognitive load. This research is a quasi-experimental study. Intrinsic cognitive load is measured using a task complexity worksheet. The carbon cycle used as a working example is created using the s-note application. The results of this study are students who are taught with worked example have a low intrinsic cognitive load. The results are shown based on the value of student information processing. The experimental class was in the high category (72.00) and the control category in the moderate category (47.09). This study can be concluded that working example on learning the carbon cycle using the S-Note application can have an effect on reducing students intrinsic cognitive load.
