Mathematical connection based on personality types a) Postgraduate Program of Mathematics Education, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Jalan Ir. Sutami No. 36A, Surakarta 57126, Indonesia Abstract Mathematics is related to the connecting ability. The students need to connect each mathematical topic, the other learning subjects, and various daily problems. The personality type of sensing intuition is an ability to process the received information. This study is aimed to describe the student’s ability in mathematical connecting identified by personality types of sensing intuition. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The subjects of the study were two junior high school students in Surakarta, chosen by using purposive random sampling. The research data were collected by using questionnaire and essay test. The method of data validity used was the triangulation method. The data were analyzed by series of process; collecting, reducing, presenting and conclusion. The result of the study shows that the student with the intuition type have more mathematical connecting ability than the student with the sensing type. Based on the result of the study, it can conclude that the students who can relate each topic in mathematics may not have the ability to relate each topic on the other learning subjects. Most of the students were only implementing the formula taught at school, they did not try to explore the mathematical connecting ability.
