Plastic bottles waste as attached growth media in the removal of organic and nutrients for small-scale wastewater treatment Environmental Enginnering, Bandung Institute of Technology Abstract Bioļ¬lm carriers play an important role in attached growth systems for wastewater treatment processes. The purpose of this study is to study the ability of plastic polyethylene terephalate (PET) waste bottles in wastewater treatment for small scale residential. Then its performance is compared with some communal Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) that use other supporting media and those that do not use media. The study was conducted at five WWTP locations in the city of Padang, West Sumatera. The results show that the WWTP that uses supporting media in organic and nutrient removal in wastewater treatment on a small scale WWTP is better than the one that does not use the supporting media.
