Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study aims to describe the influence of harmonic distortion against the percentage error of digital kWh meter to overcome the problem of harmonic distortion in the electric power system to digital kWh meter. This research was conducted at the Electrical Engineering Laboratory at State University of Jakarta.
This research was conducted using the experimental method. The experiment determined the impact of harmonic distortion on digital kWh meter errors by creating harmonics in the test circuit. Data collected by providing changes in non-linear loads then observing and measuring changes in harmonics, and errors in digital kWh meters. Then the measurement results are recorded and analyzed to conclude the influence of harmonic distortion against the percentage error of digital kWh meter.
Linear and non-linear load will affect the measurement of the kWh meter. In load testing, the higher the power the more kWh meter is inaccurate. The linear load of 100 watts with THD-I of 3.25% has the highest kWh meter measurement error rate of 2.99%. While the non-linear load of 100 watts with THD-I of 137.91% has the highest error rate of kWh meter measurement of 14.83%. This shows that the high error rate of digital kWh meter measurement is due to the high non-linear load. While the low error rate of measuring the digital kWh meter is due to the low linear load.
