Abstract

Waste is one of the crucial issues in Indonesia. Some of the main causes are the lack of waste management as well as a lack of concern for people in getting rid of waste in place. Therefore, this study has developed a prototype of a smart trash-can robot based on the Internet of things (IoT) as the implementation of the advances technology in the era of industry 4.0. The overall system consists of a line follower robot that uses a microcontroller ATMEGA 2560 as a controller system and equipped with a line detection sensor. The robot automatically carries the trash-can to a specific location along the track that has been marked with an RFID tag according to the user request through BLYNK application on the smartphone. The trash-can is equipped with the Ultrasound sensor that can detect the level of garbage and provide notifications to the IoT based application on the smartphone and also to the users email address. While the ESP8266 module is used as a medium of communication between the robot and the user through the Internet. The results of this study showed that the system has a good performance with a success rate of 87.2 percent.
