A system design of big data analytics for an IoT-enabled warehouse

Abstract

The twenty-first century exposes organizations especially businesses with inevitable rapid changes. Companies are forced to be highly efficient in their overall supply chain to be able to survive in the globalized environment. The data-driven decision-making process that is timely and accurate needs to be performed throughout the whole operations especially warehouse as it plays a vital role in accommodating the naturally fluctuated demand and tight selling-windows. Therefore, this paper aims to develop a real-time data analytics system design for monitoring performance in an IoT-based smart warehouse environment. This proposed system design relies heavily on the utilization of RFID and wireless internet connection to keep track of the product movement in the warehouse and present the users with real-time performance analysis and insights of the warehousing processes which can be accessed from anyplace. The situation analysis and qualitative content analysis approach were undergone to carry out the research. The results of the research offer both theoretical and practical implications for the industry as it adds to the body of knowledge of real-time data processing and analytics as well as helps industrial practitioners in performing real-time data analytics within their organizations.
