Abstract

This study aims to determine the rate of corrosion in ferrous metals and to determine the accuracy of the application of the RGB Color Detector camera. Determination of the iron corrosion rate using the RGB Color Detector camera application can be an alternative within the limitations of the Uv-Vis spectrophotometer in the laboratory. By taking the role of atomic absorption spectroscopy in a UV-vis spectrophotometer, the RGB Color Detector camera detects colors in the iron complex compound (II) -n- (1,10-phenanthroline). Red, Green, Blue spectrum in the resulting solution then measured and determined as the color absorption value (absorbance). The methodology of this research is Design Based Research (DBR). The results showed that the value of the corrosion rate using the RGB Color Detector application has a high percentage of accuracy that is 87.4% with measurements using Uv-Vis spectrophotometry. Obtained the value of the corrosion rate of iron in NaCl solution using an RGB Color Detector camera application of 1.9742 ppm/min and using Uv-Vis spectrophotometry of 2.2571 ppm/min. This is following previous studies that the use of the RGB Color Detector camera application can determine the concentration of a substance.
