Smoking Phenomenon among elementary children in Pasuruan – East Java Universitas Kanjuruhan Malang Abstract This study aimed at describing the phenomenon of children at elementary-age who actively smoked. Using a qualitative study type, students, head of school, and parents were the key informants were approached. The process of data collection was done by interviews, observations and searching student documents. The obtained data were analyzed by using a model from Miles and Huberman. The results discovered that the causes of elementary school children smoking were the influences of environment that facilitated them. The impacts of smoking were relaxation, coughing and addiction. The efforts of the school to deter such negative effects by promoting character education and repressing actions through light physical punishment and parental involvement. Mostly, the response of parents related to students smoking was to assess the degree of deviation, conduct special policies such as rationalizing and controlling relationships.
