Analysis of Student Literacy Statistics Viewed from the Impulsive and Reflective Cognitive Style a*)Program Studi Pendidikan Matematika, Sekolah Pascasarjana, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Jl. Dr. Setiabudi No. 229, Bandung 40154, Indonesia *al_mujahid2009[at]yahoo.com Abstract This research was motivated by the low statistical literacy ability of Madrasah Tsanawiyah students. The focus of this research was to obtain to describe the statistical literacy ability of student viewed from impulsive and reflective cognitive styles in one of the MTs in Sumedang Regency, West Java, Indonesia. The participants of this research were 33 students of 9th grade. The research methodology used was a qualitative approach using instruments consisting of Watson statistical literacy tests, Warli cognitive style tests, and semi structured interviews. The result showed that there was a relationship between students statistical literacy abilities and cognitive styles. Students with reflective cognitive styles were at the critical mathematical level, while students with impulsive cognitive styles were at the informal level. Reflective cognitive style students were more careful in answering and considering answer well, while students who where impulsive cognitive style tend to rush in answering and lack critical thinking. Based on this research teachers were expected to able to accommodate the cognitive style of each student in teaching and learning activities.
