Abstract

This study aims to describe the mathematical representation ability of eighth grade junior high school students. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study that focuses on three indicators namely visual representation, verbal representation and symbolic representation. The data collection technique used a test in the form of a description of the questions conducted to the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri in Kampar for 30 students. The results showed the students^ mathematical representation ability was low. Most students find it difficult to make drawings from the known. Based on these findings learning activities must be developed to achieve the expected indicators so that students^ mathematical representation abilities can be improved.
