The Effect of implementing the Explicit Instruction Model towards the understanding of student concept on polyhedron material in 8th Grade Junior High School Universitas Negeri Medan Abstract Abstract. Most students only try to memorize every concept taught by the teacher without understanding it. This study aims to describe the effect of applying Explicit instruction learning models on the understanding of mathematical concepts of students in the 8th grade of junior high school on polyhedron material. This type of research is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach. The research design used was a random posttest only control design with two sample classes, each of which was given a posttest. The method of data collection uses the test item description and observation sheet. Data analysis used two party ttest and a description of the effect of applying the model was seen from the observation sheet. Hypothesis testing using t test, from the data processing results obtained thitung>ttabel namely 3.552736895>2.060 so that H1 is accepted, it can be concluded that the sample class has differences. With an average test of the ability to understand concepts and standard deviations of each class, the experimental class was 75.71 and 10.26 while the control class was 67.61 and 10.61. Then the results of this study concluded that the application of the explicit instruction learning model affects students understanding of mathematical concepts.
