DEVELOPING POSITIVE YOUTH THROUGH SPORTS : STUDY LITERATURE a) Postgraduate School of Sports Education Study Program, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesian, Jalan Dr Setiabudhi No 229 Bandung Abstract Positive youth development (PYD) is a power-based concept of development, where children and adolescents are seen as having resources to develop rather than problems to be solved. PYD has been widely used to study the involvement of children and adolescents in various types of sports programs organized by adults and under adult supervision. There are three categories in the climate of PYD, namely 1) adult relationships, 2) peer relationships, and 3) parental involvement (Holt et al., 2017). One of the variables that becomes the focus in assessing the PYD program is life skills or life skills (Holt et al., 2017). Developing positive youth through sports is a must in a country, which means that the development of PYD is the main key in the progress of the country in the field of sports, the results of the study prove that sports can contribute to the development of cognitive, affective, psychomotor and social aspects which are the benchmarks for the success of a a country with youth as agents of change in the future. Therefore, it is important for a country to make sports a vehicle for developing positive youth through sports.
