KNOWLEDGE LEVEL OF EXTRACURRICULAR STUDENTS FIRST AID AT SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL IN SURAKARTA

Abstract

First aid is a first step before going to more complex in handling sports injury that it can be done by a medical team, coach, or athletes with the objective to prevent more complex injuries and infection, to reduce pain and, and to prevent death. Deep understanding about it is important in preventing serious injuries. There are 217 students at X to XII grades on Senior High School in Surakarta who participating in extracurricular sports. Their knowledge was tested using multiple-choice questionnaires and had been validated and to measure students basic knowledge about sports injury first aid was obtained in exacurricular activities. 3 major results are- 1) the 1st rank is occupied by 170 or 78.3% students have intermediate level with 78.3%, followed by 24 or 11% students have advanced level, and the 3rd rank is occupied by 23 or 10.6% students have the novice level- 2) the majority students on age range 14 to 16 years old, 82 or 37.8% students majority who join it- and 3) more than half of males students (55.3%) was dominated it. It short, a training program is required to provide students^ insight regarding sports injury first aid.
