Characteristics of Anthropometric, BMI and Social Physique Anxiety among Sports College Students Sport Science Program - Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia Abstract The purpose of the study was to examine the characteristics of anthropometric, Body Mass Index (BMI), and social physique anxiety (SPA) among sports college students. The study involved 172 sport college students (75% male and 25% female), age between 17 - 25 years old (M = 19.52- SD = 2.07) from some university in West Java Province - Indonesia. Respondents filled out a questionnaire consisting of biodata (gender, age, weight, and height), and Social Physique Anxiety Scale (SPAS) on Google form distributed via WhatsApp. Data analysis using descriptive statistics, crosstabs, independent sample t-test, and ANOVA test. Male sports students had a higher mean height and weight than female (height, M = 1.69 vs M = 1.59- weight, M = 60.6 vs 54.09) (p <0.05). There was no difference in BMI and SPA between male and female students (p> 0.05). Meanwhile of the 172 students, the BMI category 16.3% is underweight, 65.1% normal weight, 10.5% overweight, and 8.1% obese. Anthropometric characteristics of sports program college students between boys and girls were different, while BMI and SPA did not. More than 18% of students are in the category of BMI overweight and obese, this condition should be a serious concern.
