Teacher Competency of Vocational High School (SMK) in the Era of Industrial Revolution 4.0

Abstract

Currently, we are in an era of industrial revolution 4.0 that marked by new technological advances by integrating the physical, digital and biological worlds. If the teachers function is limited only transferring knowledge to students or just teaching in the classroom, then technology will replace teachers role in this era of the industrial revolution 4.0. The demands of the 4.0 industrial revolution will affect the competencies that must be possessed by teachers. Competence is a set of knowledge, skills, and behaviors that teachers must have, live and master in carrying out professional duties. These competencies consist of pedagogical, personal, professional, and social competencies. Teachers shall keep in touch the development of education to improve the quality of learning. In the current era of the industrial revolution 4.0, teachers must have new literacy skills, namely digital literacy, technological literacy and human literacy. Other teachers competencies that shall be possessed are critical thinking, collaboration, communication and creativity.
