Abstract

Tempeh is one of Indonesian traditional food that have been favored by the locals for centuries. In order to make tempeh there^s needed resource such as soybean and water and in the proceses of making tempeh will produce wastewater as a byproduct. The wastewater in tempeh making is high with biological contents such as COD, BOD5, and TSS. The pollutand load of tempeh wastewater within two the three parameters is exceed the maksimum pollutan load that can be accommodated by water bodies based on the government rules of the Decree of the Minister of Environment No. 05 of 2014. Semanan is the center of Tempeh making industry in Jakarta with more over tha one thousand tempeh maker that operated daily, tempeh maker in Semanan produce tempeh with varios amount ranging from 25 kg to 400 kg in a day. Tempeh has a life cycle from the supply of raw materials, production processes, packaging and transportation that have a potential impact on the environment in this study the LCA will be focused in the water used to make tempeh instead of the tempeh itself. In this study Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is used as a tool to evaluate the environmental impact on water bodies.
