Abstract

This study aims to obtain hypothetical conclusion in terms of factors that affect the students justification in solving mathematical problems, specifically in applied algebraic derivative function. There were 35 participants involved in this research. The research instrument was a test of applied algebraic derivative function, and semi-structure interview guidelines. In-depth interview was conducted until saturated data were obtained. Data analysis was adopted by using the grounded theory systematic procedures which is the NVivo 12 plus software as the media of analysis. The reliability test was carried out by two coders to the test themes, categories, and sub-categories that obtained from data analysis on open coding, axial coding, and selective coding, with a Cohens kappa value of more than 0.65. Therefore, the coding was made reliable. The results of the grounded theory analysis were obtained a hypothetical conclusion about the factors that affect students^ justification in solving problems about the appliedn of algebraic derivative functions including: learning culture, learning resources, and classroom learning.
