Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of the Group Investigation (GI) learning model on mathematical problem-solving abilities in terms of students^ mathematical prior abilities. This research method is an experimental method with the treatment by level design. The research data were obtained through tests of mathematical problem solving abilities and tests of mathematical prior abilities. The data analysis of mathematical problem solving abilities is based on the students^ mathematical prior ability test scores. This study resulted in the following findings: (1) Students who received GI learning with the help of the media obtained an increase in mathematical problem solving abilities in the material of One Variable Linear Equations and One Variable Linear Inequalities in class VII at the junior high school level compared to students who obtained assisted direct learning models. - (2) The learning model factor and the mathematical prior ability interact significantly with the difference in the improvement of students^ mathematical problem solving abilities- (3) Especially for students with high mathematical prior abilities, students who received the GI learning model had higher mathematical problem-solving abilities compared to students who obtained the media-assisted direct learning model- (4) Especially for students with low mathematical prior abilities, students who obtained the GI learning model, and students who obtained the direct learning model, their mathematical problem-solving abilities did not differ significantly.
