Contribution Of Students^ Mathematic Representation Abilities In Building Problem Solving Abilities 1 Departemen Pendidikan Guru Sekolah Dasar, Universitas Almuslim, Jl. Almuslim, Matangglumpang Dua, Bireuen, Aceh, Indonesia Abstract The ability of mathematical representation must be in line with problem solving abilities. The ability of representation can indirectly describe the ability of students in solving math problem solving problems. This study has a goal to be achieved in the form of identifying and describing students^ representational abilities in solving problem-solving problems in fraction material. This research was conducted using descriptive qualitative research methods. The research sample consisted of 34 grade 5 elementary school students and 3 students as the interview sample with different cognitive ability backgrounds. The research data were collected from the problem solving ability test questions and interviews. The results showed that students find it difficult to express their mathematical ideas in solving math problems, both ideas in pictures or text. Students are accustomed to immediately writing down the answers without the completion process, this is also spurred because they are not used to working on problem-based problems and have low level of conceptual understanding Keywords: representation, problem solving, qualitative research Topic: Mathematics Education |
