Mastery of biodiversity literacy content knowledge of junior high school teachers through the implementation of textbooks containing local potency of West Java

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mastery of biodiversity literacy content knowledge of junior high school teachers through the implementation of a textbook containing the local potency of West Java. Research design used in this study was Research and Development from Gall & Borg (2003). A total of 32 junior high school teachers from various districts in West Java Province were involved in the research conducted in the period January 2020 to April 2021. Results showed that: (1) there was an average increase in mastery of biodiversity literacy content knowledge of 69% (medium category)- (2) Sequentially increasing mastery of content knowledge components from largest to smallest, namely three levels of biodiversity (83%), problems and issues related to biodiversity (69%), ecological factors that affect biodiversity (56%), strategies and actions to conserve biodiversity (55%). , biodiversity values (52%), and threats to biodiversity (46%). The conclusion is that biodiversity literacy textbooks containing local potency can increase the mastery of biodiversity content knowledge so that it can be used as an alternative to equip and improve junior high school teachers^ biodiversity literacy on the content knowledge dimension.
