Abstract

Mathematics has been considered a difficult subject to learn and understand. In addition, people also still consider mathematics to be something that is free with values. So that mathematics and culture are often seen as different. This study aims to describe matters related to mathematics in the architecture of the Acehnese traditional house which is located in a tourist attraction in Langsa City. This type of research is a qualitative study using an ethnographic approach. Data collection techniques used in this study were interviews, observation and documentation. The speakers in this study were Acehnese traditional leaders and observers of Aceh traditional house architecture. The data analysis technique in this study used Spradley model data analysis, namely domain analysis, taxonomic analysis, compositional analysis and analysis of cultural themes. The results of this study indicate that in the architecture of the Aceh traditional house there are mathematical elements including counting activities, community measuring activities and geometric shapes. The implementation of ethno-mathematics in mathematics learning can be applied by introducing cultural values related to flat and spatial shapes, measuring and counting objects, and painting objects. The results of this study are expected to be used as an innovation in mathematics learning.
