Identify students^ interest in science and popular scientific article writing skills at the beginning of the popular scientific article writing workshop 1) Sekolah Pascasarjana, Program Studi Pendidikan Biologi, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Jl. Dr. Setia Budhi No. 229, Bandung 40154, Indonesia Abstract This study aims to identify the interest in science and the skill to write popular scientific articles among high school students, especially in learning biology. The method used in this research is a quantitative descriptive method that aims to describe students^ interest in science and the skill to write popular scientific articles at the beginning of the workshop. The subjects of this study are 14 11th grade students of the 2020/2021 academic year. The instruments used consisted of an assessment of popular scientific articles developed by Hidayati (2019) and a questionnaire about students^ science interest, which consisted of 38 positive and negative statements based on six indicators on two factors affecting interest. The questionnaire is measured using a modified Likert scale using four alternative answers. Based on the test results, it is known that students^ interest in science is in the low category with a percentage of 57%. This is also supported by the two factors that influence students^ interest in science which are in the low category with a percentage of internal factors of 50% and external factors of 36%. Meanwhile, the student^s skill to write popular scientific articles is in the very low category with 79%.
