Students Critical Thinking Ability in Solving Mathematical Problems a Depertemen Matematika, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Jl. Dr. Setia Budhi No. 229, Bandung 40154, Indonesia Abstract This study aims to obtain a substantive theory (conjecture) about students mathematical critical thinking abilities. The participants involved were 30 students. The research instrument was a critical thinking ability test and semi-structured interview guidelines. In-depth interviews were conducted based on the results of tests of mathematical abilities until the data was saturated. The saturation of the data occurred during the 5th interview. The reliability test was carried out by two coders to the test themes, categories, and sub-categories that obtained from data analysis on open coding, axial coding, and selective coding, with a Cohens kappa value of more than 0.65. Therefore, the coding was made reliable. A critical thinking model is proposed to develop critical thinking skills in solving mathematical problems. The results of the study reveal several pedagogical implications for teachers, to assist students in developing students^ critical thinking skills including aspects: problem solving, arguments, interpretation, strategy development, reasoning, analysis, building meaning, understanding basic concepts, and evaluating.
