Abstract

This study aims to propose a facility layout design in the Making of Wiring Harness. This is investigated based on the background of the problem of the layout of facilities that are not consistent with the production process, the distance between operators is not adequate, the room temperature is always hot resulting in work fatigue and the work productivity of employees becomes ineffective and efficient. The method used in this study is Systematic Layout Planning, namely the arrangement of the workplace with a workplace area that has an ergonomic distance from each other to create a comfortable work environment (Muther, 1984). The result of this research is that the wiring harness manufacturer uses seven production facilities with two line layout facilities for each work area, namely Housing, Assembly, Checker, Tieback, Insulock, Visual and Freedel.
Based on the results of the proposed layout design that has been done, there is an expansion of the production floor, especially at each work station. Area expansion is carried out starting from housing, assembly, checker, tieback, p.insulock, visual and freedel. There is also the use of empty areas to be used as storage of finished products and an additional 50% allowance according to the industrial facility method (Purnomo, 2004). The allowance for the initial layout is 1.5 meters for manpower from each work station, this distance is considered less effective because in addition to production activities there is also a manpower trajectory in two directions, according to the industrial facility method, the layout of the proposed distance for manpower is increased to of 2.5 meters. In this layout design, the total production floor area is 486 square meters for the initial layout production floor area is 375 square meters, the additional production area needs can be accommodated because there is still an empty and usable area, so the total area is 111 square meters.
