The Influence of Sustainable Entrepreneur Competencies and business sustainability in Soy Based Micro and Small Enterprises

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low business sustainability of soybean-based MSEs in West Java marked by the decreasing number of MSEs engaged in the soybean-based food processing industry, high cases of environmental pollution, labor cases and industrial conflicts with the community. During the COVID-19 pandemic with the policy of restricting movement, resulting in reduced business activity. Soybean-based MSEs are people^s business units that have been managed independently by entrepreneurs for a long time and entrepreneurs have a very important role in determining business progress. Based on this, entrepreneurial competence is a key factor in determining business progress, especially during the new normal period where people need to pay more attention to their own health and the environment. Based on this, this study aims to analyze the effect of sustainable entrepreneurial competence on the business sustainability. This research was conducted by surveying 185 soybean-based MSEs in West Java by collecting data using questionnaires and interviews. The results indicate that entrepreneurial competence has an effect on the business sustainability of soybean-based MSEs. The results of this study are expected to be used as basic information for the priority of developing entrepreneurial competencies that are able to run a business that is not only profit-oriented, but also pays attention to business continuity by protecting the environment, and has social concern for the surrounding community.
