The negative effect of ghosting is that students become inactive, the learning is ineffective and the lecture material is also not well absorbed. To overcome ghosting can use techniques in the form of insertion of self-motivation techniques. The purpose of this study is to describe the impact of applying self-motivation techniques in preventing ghosting phenomena in class of Science learning for elementary school. This type of research is descriptive by involving a sample of open university students who took class of Science learning for elementary school for Harau (West Sumatera) region study groups in the 2021.2 school year. The instruments used in the study are observation sheets and interviews. The data in the study was analyzed descriptively. The results of the data analysis showed that the use of self-motivation techniques can increase student involvement in lectures. Self-motivation techniques can refocus students^ attention and prevent students from ghosting during lectures.
