Abstract

PISA Scientific literacy assessment assess interrelated aspects namely scientific knowledge, competencies and scientific attitudes. This study aims to know the content validity and item validity of the developed scientific literacy instrument. A set of developed scientific literacy instruments consists of multiple choices and scientific attitudes questionnaires on the subject of matter pressure. Moreover, the initial step of this study was testing a content validity that involved 3 (three) experts. The output of this phase was a valid scientific literacy instrument based on the experts judgement. The second stage was a limited field test by administering the test to 112 junior high school students. The scientific literacy score obtained from the field test were further analyzed to gain the item validity of the scientific literacy test. The data analysis used SPSS computer program. The result showed a set of multiple choice test were in valid catergory based on the expert judgements with the Aiken^s validity coefficients on material aspect, construct and language were 0,98, 0,95 and 0,95 respectively. Also, the result of content validity test on scientific attitudes questionnaire indicates a high level of validity with the Aiken^s validity coefficient on the aspect of guidelines, content and language are 1, 1, and 0,94 respectively. Moreover, by testing item validity, it is found 20 multiple choices questions and 16 statements of scientific attitude questionnaire that meets the aspect of PISA scientific literacy assessments. The alpha Cronbach coefficients for multiple choice and scientific attitudes questionnaire are 0,693 and 0,786.
