Abstract

One of the efforts to achieve optimal educational goals is the quality of the assessment instruments used. Assessment instruments must be able to measure students^ understanding of learning materials, one of which is to be able to measure students^ critical thinking skills. The development of science and technology has a positive impact, and the demands of today^s era must achieve 21st century learning goals. In order for students to be able to achieve 21st century skills, there must be relevant instruments to meet the needs of students^ thinking abilities. This study aims to describe the importance of developing an assessment instrument for students^ critical thinking skills in chemistry learning. The method used is a systematic literature review, namely by collecting journal articles that match the theme, then the journal articles are reviewed and arranged into several discussion sections. The result of the literature review that has been carried out is a design framework for critical thinking skills assessment instruments that are suitable for assessing students^ critical thinking skills in chemistry. The discussion includes an overview of the assessment instrument, critical thinking skills and how to develop an assessment instrument to measure students^ critical thinking skills on chemistry that meets the requirements on the characteristics of the assessment.
