Influence of Problem Based Learning Model to Improvement of Mathematical Problem Solving Skill and Math Anxiety of Junior High School Students a) Departemen Pendidikan Matematika, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia Abstract This research was motivated by the students^ poor level of mathematical problem solving skill in school. Besides, math anxiety is also deemed to influence negatively on students^ mathematical problem solving skill. Students with math anxiety tend to avoid math and have a negative attitude toward math. The purposes of this research are : (1) To find out the improvement of mathematical problem solving skill in students who were taught with Problem Based Learning (PBL) model compared to students who were given a conventional approach (2) To find out math anxiety level of students before and after they are taught with PBL model. Population in this research is students at 8th grade junior high school 12 Bandung with 64 students from both experiment and control classes that are selected by purposive sampling method. The instruments used in this research are mathematical problem solving skill test & math anxiety questionnaire. The data are analyzed by t-test independent sample test & N-gain score test for mathematical problem solving skill data and Paired Samples t-Test for math anxiety data. The result of this study showed us: 1) Students who received mathematical learning through Problem Based Learning model showed significantly better improvement than students who received conventional mathematical learning. 2) Math Anxiety among students who received mathematical learning through Problem Based Learning model was lower than before they received the teaching in PBL Keywords: Math Anxiety, Mathematical Problem Solving Skill, Problem Based Learning.
