The population in this research was all grade VII students of one of junior high school in Bandung and 53 students as research sample. The research used quasi-experimental design with 24 multiple choice questions items as research instrument. The experimental group was taught through POGIL model with SSI context, while the control group was taught through scientific approach. Based on data analysis, n-gain category of scientific knowledges of the experimental class in content knowledge, procedural, and epistemic domains were dominant in the medium category of 50%, high of 46%, and high of 73%. N-gain category of the control class in content knowledge, procedural, and epistemic domains were dominant in the low category of 52%, low of 41% and high of 67%. Result obtained from t-test on normal and homogenous data shows that there are significant difference. Based on the data analysis, scientific literacy skill between students who received POGIL with SSI context is better than students who received scientific approach and the attainment of students scientific knowledge domains is on the high category Keywords: Process oriented guided inquiry learning (POGIL) model, Socioscientific issues (SSI), Scientific literacy, scientific knowledge domains, Environmental pollution Topic: Biology Education |
