STEM Education in Indonesia Urban and Rural Primary Schools: Comparative Study 1,2 Postgraduate Program of Primary Scholl Education, Universitas Negeri Malang, Indonesia Abstract . In various developing countries, especially Asia, the implementation of STEM education still have some complex problems. Therefore, it is very important that the studies on the implementation of STEM continue to be carried out in order to trigger economic growth in various developing countries. This qualitative study uses a comparative study to explore the implementation of STEM in urban and rural Indonesia. The place of this research is in four urban and rural elementary schools, with a total of eight schools to explore the extent , which they carry out STEM education. With semi-structured interviews so as to get in-depth descriptive data in eight elementary schools. The results, show the differences in STEM education of the two primary schools in urban and rural Indonesia. This difference can be seen from the teacher^s initial knowledge and implementation of STEM. One thing which more interesting in this study, there is a link between the COVID-19 pandemic and STEM education in rural areas.
