Abstract

Acid and base are crucial science topics that relate to daily life contexts and other issues. Teaching acid and base through the experiment is believed to be able to develop various skills. Generally, researchers focus on developing psychomotor skills. This study captured pre-service science teachers^ reasoning skills by writing laboratory reports after joining an experiment concerning enthalpy change of sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid reaction. Twenty-three pre-service teachers participated in this study. A matrix was adapted to categorize the complexity of pre-service science teachers^ reasoning skills. The research finding reveals that 70% of participants^ reasoning skills are in a minor category. This finding implies the importance of inquiry features during the experiment.
