Abstract

The main objective of this research is to analyze the Science Process Skills (SPS) of high school students majoring in science, especially during distance learning in the covid-19 pandemic in chemistry learning. Quantitative descriptive method was used to analyze students^ science process skills which were collected using 20 multiple choice questions, and interviews with chemistry teacher. This study involved 28 students class XI in one of senior high school in Bandung Barat city of West Java. The results showed that the average score of students science process skills was 74.46 and there were 35.71% of students having science process skills below the average. The percentage of each indicator were 85.71% (observing), 82.14% (measuring), 64.29% (classifying), 87.50% (predicting), 80.36% (communicating), 73.21% (associating), 72.62% (identifying variables), 79.46% (concluding), 57.14% (designing experiments), and 57.14% (formulating hypotheses). Based on these data, the students^ science process skills were in the low category on the indicators of classifying, designing experiments- the medium category on the indicators of associating, and identifying variables- and the others were in the high category. The interview showed that during distance learning, the chemistry learning process only used lecture method. The results of this analysis show that both before and after the COVID-19 pandemic, students^ science process skills did not develop optimally through learning using the traditional lecture method. So, that students^ science process skills still need to be developed.
