Abstract

This research was a preliminary study to analyze senior high school mathematics books on three dimensional topic based on the anthropological theory of didactic. This study aims to identify the learning obstacle experienced by students on the distance between two points and the distance from a point to the line in three dimensional topics. The method used was a qualitative with case study design. The data was obtained by triangulation, namely result of students^ test dealing with the topic, interviews, and students^ documentation. The subject of the research were 32 students of 12th grade and a teacher at one of Senior High Schools in Tolitoli, Central Sulawesi. The finding of the research are that there are three types of students^ learning obstacles, namely ontogenic, epistemological, and didactical obstacles. In the case of ontogenic obstacle, it finds that students are lack of pre-requisite knowledge of the topic. In the case of the epistemological obstacle, students tend to memorize the definitions and formulas of phytagoras in limited context. Finally, in the case of the didactical obstacle, students have obstacle due to teaching process that tends to ignore students^ learning experience. Implication of this research finding is teaching three dimensional topic should be arranged based on the needs that consider the analysis of student^s learning obstacles to achieve learning objectives.
