How is the Heterogeneity of Mathematical Reasoning Ability? A Systematic Literature Review Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia Abstract Mathematical reasoning ability is one of the important learning objectives of mathematics to be achieved by students at school. This study aims to analyze the studies conducted in order to provide an overview of mathematical reasoning abilities. The method used is a systematic literature review. The author conducted a literature search of mathematical reasoning research articles with a quantitative approach published in the range of 2013 and 2021 from three electronic databases and predetermined selection criteria to obtain the distribution of articles based on year of publication, education level, class, demographics, many samples, and journal index. Research on mathematical reasoning ability has received good attention, especially in 2016-2018. The majority of these studies were conducted at the junior high school level in grade VIII. The study was also dominated in Java & Bali with a sample of more than 30 students. Suggestions for educators or researchers to be able to further research mathematical reasoning abilities from the elementary school level, in areas outside Java & Bali. This systematic review recommends to be followed up with a more robust method, namely meta-analysis, taking into account several moderating variables.
