Development of STEM Learning Design in the 2013 Curriculum in Islamic Boarding School Learning: An Analysis and Exploration

Abstract

This study aims to develop a STEM learning design in Islamic boarding schools, with religious material using development-based research, namely EDR (Educational Design Research). This research resulted in a STEM learning project that has been designed, namely RPP (Learning Implementation Plan) for class students XI madrasas and religious subject matter. This article presents the results of analysis and exploration which is the first stage in this research, including initial orientation, literature study, field-based investigations, field visits, professional meetings, and networking carried out through various methods: interviews, discussions, observations, and document analysis with strategies include: policy synthesis strategy, portrait field, perception collection, and SWOT analysis. The results of this study confirm that STEM learning in the 2013 curriculum in Islamic boarding school lessons is very appropriate to be applied in supporting the fulfillment of 21st century skills for Islamic boarding school students. The products resulting from the first stage are problem definitions, long-term goals, partial design requirements and preliminary designs.
