Abstract

21st-century learning makes developments in the world of education occur rapidly and complexly, intending to prepare students to deal with the complexities of modern society. The use of technology is a tangible form to face these challenges. Web-based inquiry based on the socioscientific issue is one of the breakthroughs in learning, this is because inquiry ability is a basic skill that students must have in science learning. Inquiry is fundamental and is expected to help students understand, evaluate, and solve socio-scientific issues. This study aims to determine the effect web-based inquiry on socioscientific issue, with a sample of 32 students in class VII SMP. The research design used is a time series design with pretest and posttest conducted twice on different topics, namely water pollution, and air pollution. Based on the results of the pretest and post-test, a paired sample t-test was carried out with the significance value of the two test topics (2-tailed) was 0.000 (p > 0.05) so it was concluded that learning using web-based inquiry on socioscientific issue was able to improve students^ inquiry skills. Inquiry skills were also measured using a normalized gain for the pretest and post-test for the water pollution theme of 0.56 in the medium category, while for the pretest and post-test for the air pollution theme it was 0.47 in the medium category. Based on the results of the research, this web-based inquiry on socioscientific issue can be applied more widely to improve students^ inquiry skills at the junior high school level.
