Abstract

Statistics in education will be increasingly important in the 21st century. Teaching of statistics is also currently increasing substantially in various countries, so students are considered necessary to understand statistical material well. However, there are still many students who have difficulty solving statistical problems, especially because learning is done online, so it is necessary to know the causal factors. This study uses descriptive qualitative research to identify the types of student errors based on Newman^s theory. The subjects in this study were students of class IX SMP. Data collection techniques using test questions and interviews. The results of this study indicate that students have various types of errors in solving statistical problems. The cause of this error is because students are bored during learning so they cannot understand the material well, do not read the questions well, cannot determine the solution if the questions are in the form of stories, are accustomed to working on the same problems with examples and do not memorize formulas. By knowing the errors and factors causing the students, the next solution can be made more focused so that learning is more effective and there is an acceleration in learning.
