Comparing Nature of Science Frameworks in Science Textbooks Analysis: Case of Consensus View and Family Resemblance Approach Indonesian University of Education Abstract Nature of Science is a crucial part for enhancing students^ scientific literacy. Textbook is one of the significant and trustworthy source in education to support Nature of Science. One of the common frameworks used in textbook analysis is based on the consensus view of NOS. Then, there is Reconceptualized Family Resemblance Approach as one alternative that considered compatible to the needs of more pluralistic and comprehensive framework. This study aims to compare the two frameworks in the case of representing Nature of Science in textbook analysis. The comparison is focused on the similarity and difference of how both the framework by the working principle and the products whether in general of specific. Content analysis conducted by analyzing 13 documents filtered out of 67 documents within the various purposive criteria. Based on the study, five general themes are emerged from the analysis concerning: coverage, distribution, quality, publisher effect, and depth. Most of the study get into the finding that the representation of NOS in the textbooks are inadequate as well as implicit. Moreover, the distribution is often scattered and limited from the complete aspects. The remarkable point is that FRA has broader spectrum analysis, yet it enables detailed NOS analysis to make it significant in didactic context, while the consensus view-based framework giving ease to large scale study. The textbook analysis study that employs FRA is still sparse, more research using the framework to present in depth analysis of NOS is required to support NOS in didactic context.
