Cognitive System Profile of Prospective Teacher Students in Cell Biology Learning aDoctoral Programme of Natural Sciences Education, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia Abstract Biological developments at the cellular and molecular levels are growing very rapidly. The major challenge in studying it lies in the number of core topics and the degree to which they are intrinsically complex, making this course a difficult subject for students, student teachers, and teachers alike. This study aims to describe the profile of the cognitive system of prospective teacher students in cell biology learning. The method in this study is a descriptive method with a quantitative approach involving 32 fourth semester students who have taken cell biology courses at a private LPTK in Bandung. The instrument used is a knowledge test instrument or knowledge test in terms of the cognitive system. The cognitive system instrument was developed based on Marzano^s New Taxonomy at level 1. Retrieval, level 2. Comprehension, Level 3. Analysis, Level 4. Knowledge Utilization. The material developed into the form of an instrument is material for cell division, metabolism, and protein synthesis. The results showed the profile of the student^s cognitive system in cell biology learning at level 1. retrieval and level 2. Comprehension showed a percentage (45.14% - 42.45%) in the moderate/enough category. stored from learning that has been obtained previously and can integrate into conceptual understanding. While level 3. Analysis and level 4. Knowledge Utilization shows the percentage (39.53% -31.53%) in the low/less category, this shows students have not been able to develop analytical skills and relate them to the use of their knowledge in various ways to get a solution. Overall the cognitive system with information procedures in cell biology learning needs to be improved in the good and very good categories.
