Abstract

Using literature, fieldwork and historical analysis, based on a review of the political functions of important sports stadiums in mainland China over the past 70 years, it is pointed out that large sports stadiums in mainland China have undergone a transformation from a single, intuitive political display function to a complex, hidden political landscape function, and the shaping of people^s collective memory is consistent throughout. Finally, the patterns of stadiums as political landscapes shaping collective memory are sorted out, and the future development of stadiums is predicted in the light of current policies.
