Abstract

PhET is an interactive simulation platform designed to visualize abstract concepts in physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology and earth sciences. PhET^s interactive media provide realistic and easy-to-use simulations that allow students to run virtual experiments and see results instantly.
This study aims to assess the effectiveness of using PhET interactive simulations in increasing students^ understanding of chemical change. The research method used was quantitative, with a quasi-experimental design and a Nonequivalent Control Group Design involving a control group. The research participants comprised two groups of class X students at Madrasah Aliyah Bogor Regency.
The results of the N-Gain analysis showed a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores in the two groups. Students who used the PhET simulation experienced an average increase of 0.75 in the high category in their understanding of material change compared to the control group, which experienced an increased average of 0.20 in the low category.
This study concluded that using PhET simulations was very effective in increasing students^ understanding of the concept of material change.
