Abstract

The research study investigates the impact of disruptive technologies on the educational milieu and pedagogical approaches for the development of competencies. The exploration of the potential of emerging technologies to revolutionize education and enhance skill development is of utmost importance, given their transformative impact on various industries. This research article employs a quantitative approach to examine the influence of disruptive technologies on the learning environment and innovative teaching strategies for skill training. Data was collected from engineering lecturers and students at selected Ghanaian Technical Universities to provide insights into the transformative potential of disruptive technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR), blockchain, and robotics. Data collected from technical university lecturers and students is analyzed using PLS-SEM, a variance-based approach to structural equation modelling. The analysis of the data reveals the impact of disruptive technologies on personalized learning, collaboration, and access to learning resources. The findings highlight the effectiveness of teaching strategies such as problem-based learning, project-based learning, and competency-based education in the context of disruptive technologies. This research contributes to existing knowledge by providing empirical evidence on the implications of disruptive technologies for skill training in a technical university setting, offering practical recommendations for educators to adapt and leverage these technologies effectively.
