Organic Rice Demand Prospects in Indonesian Food Consumption Pattern: Green Management Policy and Economy Development

Abstract

The need for food increases along with population growth, the development of its processed product business. Natural food preferences, interests and lifestyles affect the demand for organic rice, although more expensive than non-organic. Organic rice and brand images have been successfully developed in West Java. With a qualitative description method, this paper aims to present organic rice demand prospect in Indonesian food consumption patterns, policy and development, enriched by literatures and related studies review. Orders for organic rice and organic food consumption level in Indonesia are still relatively low. The organic food consumption pattern and rice are influenced by the education level, income, access to it, preferences, interests, behavior and lifestyle. It is indicated that the success of organic rice development is due by the local government intensive support. An indication of the income increase, farmers and other related actors organic product. Relatively not yet open access to marketing and locations to buy organic rice. It indicates the development of planting area and harvest area of organic rice farming. The importance and need for the role and alignment, as well as government intervention and regulations related to food prices and availability and document convenience ease, related to quality assurance and consumption safety.
