INCREASING TEACHERS^ COMMITMENT TO THE PROFESSION THROUGH STRENGTHENING SERVANT LEADERSHIP AND TEACHER EMPOWERMENT

Abstract

The study aims to find out the efforts of teacher commitment increasing to the profession by examining the relationship between variables related to teacher commitment to the profession. These variables are servant leadership and teacher empowerment. The research was conducted using quantitative correlational method. The research was conducted on private high school full-time foundation teachers in Cibadak Commissariat of Sukabumi Regency with a research population of 137 teachers, sample taken randomly proportionally totalling 103 teachers. The results showed that there was a positive relationship between servant leadership and teacher commitment to the profession (r = 0.4599, α = 0.05) and there was a positive relationship between teacher empowerment and teacher commitment to the profession (r = 0.4134, α = 0.05). It indicates that teachers^ commitment to the profession can be improved through strengthening servant leadership and teacher empowerment. From the results of the sitorem analysis, the priority order of indicators that need to be improved is obtained, namely: self-belief, self-determination, humility, listening, dedication, professional benefits, professional opportunities/impacts, and emotional ties. Meanwhile, indicators that are already in good condition and just need to be maintained are principal support, courage, competence, integrity, sincerity, loyalty, and self-identification.
