Abstract
Previous research has shown that parents preferences in choosing schools vary by social and economic level. Parental choices are part of a social process influenced by salient traits of social class and networks of social relationships. This has a strong argument considering that the characteristics of the school chosen will be closely related to the features of the household itself. We used primary data to investigate socioeconomic status effect on school choice differences. In this study, we predict differences in the characteristics of parents who prefer to send their children to public schools or private schools based on socioeconomic status--between socioeconomic status and school choice. The results of this study reveal that socioeconomic status is the main reason influencing preference in school choice. In essence, the economic condition affects school choice positively.
