Abstract
Regional economic development strategies can be carried out by developing regional superior (leading) sectors. This research resulted in a design for determining economic structure and growth patterns, then determining regional leading sectors in each district/city in West Java Province, Indonesia in facing global market competition. To answer research problems, several data analysis methods were used, namely: Klassen Typology Analysis, Location Quotient (LQ) Analysis, and Shift Share Analysis using data for each district/city in West Java Province for the 2020-2022 period.
The province of West Java, which consists of 18 regencies and 9 cities, has its own characteristics from each region. In general, in West Java Province, the leading sectors are wholesale and retail trade- processing industry and the agricultural, forestry, and fishery sectors. There has been a shift in the economic structure in the regencies in West Java, from agriculture to industry, although the agricultural sector still plays an important role and is the basis sector in the region, especially the regencies. Meanwhile, for more developed regencies and municipal areas, there has been a shift or improvement in the economic structure of industry as well as an increase in the trade and financial sectors. And specifically for the city of Bandung, which is also the capital of West Java Province, there has been an even higher shift, namely starting to become a service city.
