Abstract
Experiential learning is used to overcome the abstractness of class discussions and motivate long-term learning. The aim of this study was to measure the effect of the tourism KKL course on the development of students^ generic competencies and to evaluate the effect of experiential learning on tourism education. Pre-project and post-project independent surveys and post-project reflective journals were completed by students enrolled in a service learning course entitled Ecotourism in Rural and Developing Areas. The majority of students appreciated the KKL course, especially the KKL project that was conducted outside the classroom, which made them aware of the needs of underprivileged people in the KKL community.
