Cooperative Learning Model in Physical Education: Impact on Social Skills Development and Critical Thinking

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the Cooperative Learning Model on improving students^ social skills and critical thinking in Physical Education (PE) learning. The research method used was an experimental design with Multiple Treatment and Control with Pretest, involving two experimental groups, namely the intervention of the cooperative learning model type (1) Team Game Tournament (TGT)- (2) Group Investigation (GI)- and one control group with conventional model intervention. Participants involved in this study were junior high school students in Bandung City. There are two instruments used (1) social skills instruments and critical thinking. All data generated in this study were analyzed using one-way manova and one-way anova analysis techniques which aim to see the effect of the three groups on social skills and critical thinking. The results of the analysis prove that the cooperative learning model has a significant impact on the development of social skills and critical thinking of students in physical education learning.
